About Port Credit

Port Credit’s history dates back to 1720, when a trading post was established at the mouth of the Credit River. The area was christened Port Credit because goods at the trading post could be obtained “on credit”. It was first referenced on a map in 1757.

Merged with the City of Mississauga in 1974, this beautiful community is the city’s entertainment hub, where residents and visitors enjoy a wealth of shopping, events, music, and waterfront dining. Port Credit is home to thousands of families, and over 400 businesses within easy walking distance of each other. Local annual events include the Mississauga Marathon, Art in the Park, the Mississauga Waterfront Festival, and the Southside Shuffle Blues and Jazz Festival.
